The Ripper and the Swedish murders – BBC News

For months after he replied to Operation Painthall’s email, Lundqvist heard nothing back from the British detectives.

Then in May 2017, the Swedish newspaper Kvallsposten published a story on Operation Painthall’s inquiry.

A few days later, Lundqvist received a reply – this time from the man leading the cold case review, Detective Chief Inspector James Dunkerley.

The brutal unsolved murders carried out by the ‘East Lancs Ripper’ suspected of sexually mutilating two women

Cold case detectives have issued a fresh plea to solve the horrific murders of two sex workers which may have been inspired by a TV film of Jack the Ripper.

Linda Donaldson and Maria Christina Requena were found brutally maimed when their bodies were found almost 30 years ago.

Greater Manchester Police said there was no “forensic links” between the deaths – but it is feared the same killer was responsible.

Ms Donaldson was found naked and mutilated behind a hedge in a farmer’s field in Lowton, near Leigh on October 18, 1988. The 31-year-old, who was a sex worker, had been repeatedly stabbed.

On the same day, a TV dramatisation of the Jack the Ripper murders – which had taken place exactly 100 years previously – was screened.

Detectives investigating the murder requested video of the TV drama starring Michael Caine, as they suspected it may have triggered her attacker’s lust to kill.

Revisiting Greatest Unsolved Murder Mystery – “Belizean Jack the Ripper”

2016 is drawing to a close as one of the bloodiest years in recent times. Most murders remain unsolved as did a string of homicides that occurred between 1998 and 2000, which we revisit tonight. As many as five primary school girls from Belize City were viciously murdered. There was a common thread in the way life was snuffed from the girls, all between nine and fourteen years of age. At the time, many believed that a serial killer dubbed ‘Jack the Ripper’ was lurking in the shadows prowling on innocent victims. News Five’s Duane Moody takes you back and has an update on what is now considered a cold case.

Karen Wills, Mother of Erica Wills:

“Erica mi di go dah school; when ih missing she was eight years old; the same time ina July, the thirty-first.”
