Mock crime scene provides final exam for TJC criminal justice students

Professor Jason Waller, who also serves as department chair for TJC’s Law and Public Service Careers, had set up the mock crime scene for his students to “investigate” the simulated crime.

The mock crime scene, secured with crime scene tape, included empty alcohol containers, fired bullet casings, stage-prop-style weapons, imitation blood stains, and a crime scene dummy that simulated a body. There was also a dirt area outside with shoe impressions.

The students arrived at the scene at 1 p.m., and began processing the area, carrying out their assigned duties. Students examined the “evidence,” taking photos and recording statistics about each element and its position. Then, they bagged the evidence to be evaluated on how they processed each item.

“This class provided hands on experience that is a stepping stone to a future career,” said Gavino Rongel, a sophomore from Fruitvale, who plans to become a state trooper after completing his education at

Fostoria family searches for closure, justice in 13-year-old cold case murder

FOSTORIA, Ohio (13abc Action News) – It’s been a long and difficult 13 years for the family of Tina Snyder.

“We just want people to know that she’s still thought of,” said Snyder’s sister Becky Rice.

Back in 2004, Snyder, 43, was found murdered in the bathtub of her Fostoria apartment.

Police told Snyder’s family she was strangled to death with speaker wire.

“[The murderer] just killed her and then left her there…like she was nobody,” said Rice.

On Sunday, Snyder’s family gathered at her grave to remember her on the anniversary of her murder.

“I love her and I wish to God that she didn’t have to go [that] way,” said Rice.

Over the years, Snyder’s family says police have searched for suspects and evidence, but have come up empty handed. Tina’s murder had turned into a cold case.

“That’s the hardest part—is us not getting justice,” said Snyder’s niece Christina Bowers. “We can’t

‘He needs justice.’ Cold case murder of teen haunts investigators – WXIA

Gavin Williams will never see his sister again. He’ll never get to meet his nephew. Gavin wasn’t there to say goodbye when his grandmother died. She’d raised him after his mother passed away at an early age from cancer. He’ll never get to walk across the stage at Osborne High School in Marietta.

“He ws a friendly person,” said Dana Williams, Gavin’s sister. “He made friends quicker than I did. I guess you could say he didn’t know no stranger.”

Gavin’s future was stolen on a warm Saturday night on Memorial Day weekend in 2001, when someone stabbed him 47 times on a walking trail near his apartment complex.

Watch the full story from Vinnie Politan tonight, on #TheLateFeed after the game.

“(He was) very energetic, smart, inquisitive,” remembers Dana. “My son reminds me of him a lot.”

MILWAUKEE — The mother of a homicide victim is doing all she can to find her son’s killer. Dontrae Henning, 22, was killed in late July. Not arrests have been made, but his mother remains hopeful.

On a brisk Saturday afternoon, Latoya Henderson and her family came together near 80th and Bender. The Milwaukee mother goes door to door, handing out fliers and asking questions determined to find answers about her son’s death.

“I don’t understand why someone would do this to him,” said Henderson.

Henning was shot and killed near 84th and Bender on July 31st. Investigators say he was parked in a car with a woman when someone shot them both. The woman survived.

“It’s a horrible feeling to lose a child that you carry and you have no answers,” said Henderson.

Since then, no
