12 years after homicide, two men head to prison in cold case

SAGINAW, MI — Jeramie Tucker will spend the next 12 to 50 years in prison for the 2005 slaying of Terrance Winters, according to court records.

Circuit Judge Andre R. Borrello handed down that sentence Wednesday, Oct. 11, bringing an end to what was once a cold-case murder on Saginaw’s West Side.

Tucker’s accomplice, 30-year-old Charles Miles, was sentenced earlier, on Sept. 25, to 16 to 25 years in prison, according to court records.

Miles and 28-year-old Tucker initially faced charges of first-degree murder and a number of other serious felonies in the case. Both men pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and, in exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop all other charges against them.

Miles additionally pleaded guilty to one count of felony firearm. As part of Tucker’s plea deal, he agreed to testify against Miles.

In the arrest warrant, police say Miles and Tucker robbed Winters at gunpoint April 26, 2005, and shot

State Police highlight Belen woman’s cold case homicide in new video

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are trying a new tactic to solve some cold cases, starting with a 13-year-old mystery.

The murder of Elizabeth Gonzalez of Belen has puzzled investigators since she was found shot to death on a cold December day in 2004 near Tome Hill.

Now, State Police are sharing new details about the case in a video they put online.

“People are starting to talk, the walls are caving in. It’s a matter of time before we knock on your door. We haven’t forgotten, her family hasn’t forgotten and we’re going to continue to work this investigation until we resolve this issue,” Sgt. Mark Soriano said in the video.

In that clip, investigators say a man showed up at Gonzalez’s home. The friend with her that day told police Gonzalez left with that man in a green car, and that was the last time she

Cold-case investigation yields arrest in Isle of Wight homicide

Revisiting cold-case homicides led Isle of Wight County investigators to new information and an arrest in the death of a county native, Lt. Tommy Potter said.

This week, detectives arrested Trabion Tynes, 44, of Surry County and charged him with the 2004 slaying of his father, Johnnie Tynes Sr., 56. The victim’s youngest son — Trabion Tynes was 31 at the time — was indicted for murder and is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk.

Trabion Tynes was charged in the murder once before, in February 2008. The charges were dropped in May 2008 after some witnesses were reinterviewed and several others could not be found.

The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office reviewed two cold-case homicides this year — Johnnie Tynes’ death and the slaying of Carrie Singer. Both deaths took place in 2004 and had remained unsolved, Potter said.

Cold Case Homicide

Padilla estimated that more than 200 pieces of physical evidence exist in the case file. To date, a definitive DNA profile has only been extracted from one item—a beer can found near where Zywicki’s car was abandoned that may or may not have anything to do with the crime.

“That profile has never returned a match with any known offender,” Padilla said, “and beyond that, we don’t currently have any other profiles because the technology used then was inadequate.”

Advances in DNA testing mean that the same evidence—the blanket, sheet, and duct tape Zywicki was wrapped in, shoelaces found at the scene, and other significant items—could reveal the killer’s DNA.

“I’m hopeful this new technology will help us,” Padilla said. “I am convinced the DNA and the suspect are in the case file. It’s just a question of finding them.”

Some of Tammy’s personal property is known to be missing, including a Cannon 35mm

Tip in Indiana Teens’ Double Homicide Leads to Arrest in Unrelated Cold-Case Killing

A tip to law enforcement about the February slayings of two Indiana teenagers led to an arrest in an unrelated, decade-old cold case after a man allegedly confessed during police questioning, PEOPLE confirms.

The man under arrest in the cold case is not considered a suspect in the slaying of the teens, Randy Pryor, the sheriff in Cass County, Indiana, tells PEOPLE.

In February, Indiana teens Liberty German and best friend Abigail Williams were reported missing. Their bodies were discovered the following day not far from where they were last seen alive.

Their killer — who police believe was a man seen in on a cell phone photo taken by German on the hiking trail near where the girls’ bodies were found — has not been identified or found.

Last week, under police questioning in connection with that investigation, Kevin Sellers, of Logansport, Indiana, allegedly confessed to fatally shooting his uncle, David Sellers, in 2007,

Murder charges filed in 1989 homicide cold case of elderly couple

SULLIVAN, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say a man jailed in western Indiana has waived extradition to face murder charges in North Carolina stemming from the 1989 deaths of an elderly couple in their home.

Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom said Friday that 42-year-old Eric Robert Begley of Shelburn, Indiana, had been in jail since May 27 on unrelated charges.

The Asheville, North Carolina, Police Department last week announced Begley was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 75-year-old Allene McMahan and 79-year-old Cleve McMahan. They were found dead in December 1989 after being beaten with a blunt object.

Begley was 14-years-old at the time of the slaying.

Cottom says Begley implicated himself in the McMahan slayings to officers shortly after his May arrest.

Begley faces Sullivan County charges including possession of a syringe.
