OKLAHOMA CITY – Murder charges have been filed in a 1984 cold case in southeastern Oklahoma.

Johnny Smith was killed on June 28th, 1984 during his shift at the K.C.S. Lumber Company in Idabel.

On the day of the murder, four witnesses said they heard a gunshot and then saw a man erratically driving a front-end loader, which belonged to the lumber company, past them.

Several minutes later, the witnesses told police that the same man drove a truck in the opposite direction and out of the gate of the lumber yard.

Murder charges filed in 1989 homicide cold case of elderly couple

SULLIVAN, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say a man jailed in western Indiana has waived extradition to face murder charges in North Carolina stemming from the 1989 deaths of an elderly couple in their home.

Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom said Friday that 42-year-old Eric Robert Begley of Shelburn, Indiana, had been in jail since May 27 on unrelated charges.

The Asheville, North Carolina, Police Department last week announced Begley was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 75-year-old Allene McMahan and 79-year-old Cleve McMahan. They were found dead in December 1989 after being beaten with a blunt object.

Begley was 14-years-old at the time of the slaying.

Cottom says Begley implicated himself in the McMahan slayings to officers shortly after his May arrest.

Begley faces Sullivan County charges including possession of a syringe.

Wrongful Conviction Lawsuit Filed In 1957 Cold-Case Murder

SYCAMORE, IL — A 77-year-old Seattle man has filed a lawsuit after being arrested and convicted in the 1957 murder of 7-year-old Maria Ridulph — only to have his conviction overturned. Jack McCullough was arrested more than five decades after the murder, once dubbed “the coldest case ever solved.” But his conviction was overturned and, after he spent nearly five years in prison, a DeKalb County judge granted him a certificate of innocence.

Now, McCullough has filed a federal wrongful conviction lawsuit naming the city of Sycamore and former DeKalb County State’s Attorney Clay Campbell, among others.

The suit claims evidence was fabricated to create an “alternative timeline”for the murder to discredit McCullough’s alibi, according to WPSY. McCullough, who now lives in Seattle, has long maintained his innocence, saying that he was meeting with Air Force recruiters 40 miles away in Rockford when little Maria Ridulph was abducted and murdered
