Man arrested in connection with 1980 murder of California teenager

ANTIOCH, Calif. — A notorious 37-year-old cold case has finally been closed in northern California, CBS San Francisco reports.

Police arrested 63-year-old Mitchell Bacom Monday evening on suspicion of kidnapping, raping and murdering a teenage girl — who was later identified as 14-year-old Suzanne Bombardier — while she was babysitting in Antioch in 1980.

A fisherman discovered Bombardier’s body in the San Joaquin River days later. She had been stabbed once in the heart.

After decades with few leads, investigators reopened the case in 2015 using DNA evidence.

“Thanks to advances in forensic science, obtaining this positive identification for Suzanne’s killer became a reality,” Antioch Police Chief Tammany Brooks said.

Bacom’s arrest closes the oldest unsolved murder within the Antioch Police Department.

BC man wanted for murder in California cold-case

A resident of the Cowichan Valley is facing extradition to California to answer to charges of murder and kidnapping in a cold-case file dating back to the 1990’s.

Anthony Michael Kubica, 61, recently made a court appearance in Victoria in connection with the extradition request made by the Riverside County District Attorney’s office, and is expected to make a second court appearance in January.

A publication ban on the information that was revealed in the court appearance has been issued.

Kubica is wanted for the murder and kidnapping of Palm Springs resident Marie Darling, a 78-year-old wealthy widow who disappeared from her home 27 years ago.

Her body was found wrapped in a sleeping bag by hikers alongside a highway, with her feet bound in duct tape, according to the declaration in support of an arrest warrant.

An autopsy performed on the body found the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the

Man who crashed into Kylie Jenner’s gate confesses to unsolved murder in California – KTRK

A man who crashed into Kylie Jenner’s gate last year confessed to the stabbing death of a homeless man in Anaheim, California and has been linked to a second murder, police said.

Anaheim police say Marvin Magallanes voluntarily turned himself in for a January murder that had remained unsolved.

“He walked into the front counter here at the Anaheim police department, reported to the front counter staff that he had come to confess to the commission of a murder,” said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

Sabah Alsaad, a 49-year-old homeless man, was stabbed to death in January on the 1200 block of South Magnolia Avenue.

Detectives had used forensic evidence to link that crime to a similar killing in October, the murder of Onosai Tavita, 52, also homeless, on the 900 block of South Ball Road.

They had made that link about a week before Magallanes turned himself in.

“We knew that the same suspect was

Cold Case Murder Suspect Sought In Southern California

ARCADIA, CA — A cold case where a father was shot to death in front of his child in Whittier has not been forgotten by that police department.

Whittier police Wednesday circulated a composite drawing of a suspect wanted in the killing of a man who was gunned down more than six years ago in front of his 7-year-old daughter.

Juan Gabriel Ramirez Mendez, 35, was fatally shot on Feb. 26, 2011, at about 8:45 p.m. at the Crestwood Apartments at 8900 block of Painter Ave., said Whittier police Sgt. John Scoggins.

“In the ongoing investigation into the death … a composite sketch of the shooter has been created with the assistance of eyewitnesses,” Scoggins said.

The gunman was described as “fair-skinned,” with dark hair, 5-feet-10 inches to 6-feet tall, weighing 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a black coat with a hood.
