Convict arrested over unsolved murder case

Japanese police have arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing a woman 11 years ago. The man is currently serving a prison sentence for a similar attack he carried out several months later.

37-year-old Hirokazu Suzuki was convicted of stabbing and injuring a 40-year-old woman in Kawasaki, near Tokyo, in April 2007.

He is now the prime suspect in the unsolved murder of a 27-year-old woman in the same city in September 2006. Both attacks took place at night, about 1.5 kilometers apart.

Investigators got a lead in January of last year, when Suzuki submitted a letter indicating his involvement.
Police found his statement consistent with security camera footage and other details of the murder.

Suzuki has reportedly admitted attacking a complete stranger. Investigators plan to transfer him to a police station for further interrogation.
